The Magic of Memories

The farm is already eerily quiet and the animals and creatures will soon start to wonder where their children have gone. The creek will continue to babble along and the crayfish will breathe a sigh of relief. The hammock in Pine Haven will rock gently in the summer breeze, waiting for the time when laughing children are cradled in its mesh once again. With the start of every new summer, there is always a longing to hold onto the way things were because that’s been our routine for so many months. But all it takes is the first morning when we are able to sleep in or make new discoveries outside in our own yard or lay in the grass and simply watch the clouds drift by. This summer enjoy the outdoors from sunrise to sunset, pitch a tent in your backyard and count the stars in the night sky and please remember to hold onto the wonderful memories we made together at Coyote Nature school this year.

Let’s take a look at the freshest memories we have - the ones from today! See if you can count how many different memories we made!

Think about which memories stand out the most in your mind and share them with your family.

                                         Celebrating our Chickadees

In the afternoon, we made more memories by acknowledging how important each member of our group was. We were thrilled to have so many parents there to celebrate our accomplishments with us.

Blue Jay was our ‘Nature Noticer’ this year. She had a keen eye for nature and was always the first person to make new discoveries. She knew exactly where to find snails, maple keys and interesting rocks.

Bobcat was our ‘Question Asker’. He was so curious about everything that the questions just bubbled right out of him and his questions helped all of us learn even more about nature.

Chickadee was known as our ‘Problem Solver’ this year. She was always cool as a cucumber and ready to help anyone who was struggling. These skills allowed her to be a fantastic junior Nature mentor!

Chipmunk was our ‘Animal Lover’. The first thing he did when he arrived at Nature school was to visit the ducks and the rabbits and the horses! We think he might even become a vet some day!

Eagle was always our ‘Challenge Maker’. He showed a lot of bravery by climbing trees higher than others and by choosing to sled down the steepest part of Mount Coyote!

Frog became our ‘Knowledge Keeper’ this year. He has been at Coyote Nature school since it started and he knows everything about the land and the creatures! He has also been a kind friend to many of the younger children.

Grasshopper earned the title of ‘Media Maker’ this year’. He was an energetic singer, a thoughtful writer and budding photographer! He always knew exactly how he wanted his work to turn out!

Hedgehog was our ‘Smile Maker’ all year round. She always wished to see the same thing when we met for our opening circle - rainbows and bunnies and that always put a smile on our faces!

Rabbit was definitely our ‘Positive Thinker’. She looked at every situation as if the glass was half full and always knew who needed a shoulder to lean on. She was extremely patient and encouraging and these qualities made her an excellent role model for others.

Squirrel was just naturally our ‘Human Hauler’ this year. He always took the initiative to help carry things no matter how heavy they were or how far we had to go. He also never complained or gave up. He showed others what a team player looks like.

Turtle became our ‘Information Sharer’. He always seemed to know something about everything and couldn’t resist sharing it with us. We sure did learn a lot from Turtle!

Butterfly was our ‘Never say never’ hero this year. Even when things were hard or he hadn’t done them before, he always kept on trying and we were so happy when he succeeded!

Thank you to each and every one of you Chickadees for making our Wednesdays so much fun to be together ! Together, we wondered and wandered, laughed and learned just like a ‘banditry’ or flock of Chickadees does!

Special thanks must also be given to parents and family who made all of this possible by dressing you, driving you, feeding you, and loving you! We appreciate the support you provided and wouldn’t have been able to do it without you!

Final thanks goes out  to our awesome Chickadee nature mentors - Coyote, Raccoon, and Antman! There wasn’t much we couldn’t do when we put our heads together! What an exciting team to be part of!

Hope you Chickadees make a mountain of magical memories when you're out in nature this summer and we can't wait to hear all about them in September! Have a great summer!
