Connect alongside your child to the wonders of nature. Acorns & Oaks immerses children with their parents/caregiver in an active outdoor experience in a beautiful setting. Wander the forest pathways, tune in your deer ears, dog nose, and raccoon hands as we watch the season change and hidden colours emerge. Find out what plants and animals are living close by and connect with them through ‘hands on’ learning. Each visit includes imaginative play, stories, hiking, roleplay, and nature activities. Collaborative ‘art’ by building, creating, and pretending using natural materials are part of each visit. Enjoy being present as your child exercises their creativity, curiosity, and wonder in the natural world. Grow your own nature literacy skills so you can reconnnect your family with the natural world.

Each day will be highlighted through a blog post to help families support the learning through conversations at home.

Gather with Nature Mentor, Erin McArthur for a morning program at beautiful Stoneridge Farm. Erin is a holistic wellness practitioner who focuses on supporting people of all ages through practices such as Reiki, Meditation and Mindfulness (see bio in TEAM). The Rooted In Nature program will help children connect more deeply with the natural world through fun, active and peaceful interactions. Children with this foundation manage day to day challenges better, self-regulate, gain a sense of calm, act compassionately, and feel more hopeful.

Chipmunk Program  10 week sessions

For children ages 4 - 7 years

FALL Session | Sept - Nov 2026 | 10 weeks

SPRING Session | April - June 2027 | 10 weeks

Harrington | Tuesdays  9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Nature Mentor | Kathie

We are the Chipmunks with curious minds and busy bodies. Our spring and fall seasons are spent being active outdoors while building caring, helpful relationships in a loving community of learning. We seek cozy shelter from the rain and wind, spending time together creating, reflecting and resting when needed and love our adventures outdoors, wandering, building and discovering the critters and plants who share our spaces.

The Chipmunk Program is the perfect starting place in the nature school experience. Led by experienced educator Kathie Aggett, this group will be kept small, with up to 10 children ages 4-7 years spending 10 weeks in Fall and/or Spring exploring the beautiful Mill Pond and park in the hamlet of Harrington. The historic Harrington Community Hall is our beautiful home base featuring stained glass windows, hardwood floored large learning space with stage, accessible indoor washroom, with the bonus of having the Harrington public library right downstairs.

Your child’s program will focus on fun outdoor hands-on learning experiences while fostering strong connections with peers in a safe and accepting environment.  The flow of the program will include free exploration, interest-based discovery and integrating age-appropriate academic concepts in fun outdoor experiences through play.

Within a framework of respect, resiliency and teamwork, your child will have opportunities to foster their creativity and develop a deep connection with nature through activities such as guided wander time, nature crafts, shared stories, math and science exploration, sensory based activities and so much more. Library time will be guided by our exceptional librarian, Kathy Eastman with stories, crafts, reading and book exchange.

Families may choose to sign up for both fall and spring sessions, or one of these options which fit your child. The program will be offered on Tuesdays with drop off at 9:00am with pick up at 3:00pm. The ratio of adults to children is kept very low (1:5) providing your child with the caring support needed to feel confident, safe and happy throughout our busy day. All children must be able to independently use the washroom to participate.
