Was that you today?

Animals in a natural environment have roles to play in the never-ending circle of life. Everyday if we look closely we can see these signs. Grey Wolf noticed that the feathered wing of a bird had disappeared from the tree branch where it had been left last week. Some animals are predators, looking for their next meal. Others are the prey for these animals searching for safe places to hide. Is your nature name animal considered a predator or a prey? What would it eat? What kind of animal would eat it?
What roles did you play today at Nature School? How are you connected to each other and the environment around Harrington?
Were you a "Reader"? -Reading a book to a group of friends, presenting your poem out loud, listening to the story Winter Dance. Was that you today?

Were you a "Listener"? -Sitting quietly when someone was talking, respecting the person with the talking stick, listening to the sounds of nature including the crows and the blue jays. Was that you today?

Were you a "Good Friend"? - Sharing a sled with someone, comforting someone when they hurt themselves, sharing the canine animal track sheet with someone. Was that you today?

Were you an "Actor"? -Taking part in Animal Charades, doing a freeze dance. Was that you today?

Were you a "Planner"? -Brainstorming ideas for our last week of the winter session, planning how to spend your time with friends during Wander Time. Was that you today?
Were you a "Problem Solver"? - Discovering animal tracks/scat out on the trail, deciding how to dress for the changing weather, playing animal track BINGO. Was that you today?
Were you a "Scientist"? -Finding out ways to help birds through a cold winter, learning about the different stages of frostbite, finding out where animals are travelling/hiding/eating/sleeping. Was that you today?
Were you a "Writer"? or an "Artist"? -Writing animal names in your journals and drawing pictures to illustrate them and their tracks. Grey Squirrel read us The Story Hunter, a story about a child who created their own stories through pictures. Was that you today?
You might be surprised to discover that you had more than one role this week. Were you a planner but also an artist? Were you the best listener you could be? What roles did you do a great job at and which ones need a bit more work? Any way you look at it, without you some of those jobs would not have happened. We are all linked and connected, stronger together than on our own. What roles were your favourites? Which role would you like to explore some more? Think about a goal you would like to achieve next week. Looking forward to sharing these goals as we gather next week for the last session of winter
