And the wind blows

The winds are just one of the challenges animals face in the spring. What other challenges do animals have in finding food, water, shelter and space? Early in our day, we were all excited to see Bald Eagles fly overhead. To me it seemed like they were flying fast. Could it be because of the wind? The rest of our morning focused on birds and the challenges they have in surviving winter and into spring. We even found some feathers and wondered what had happened to the bird? Eggs and baby birds are tasty meals for predators like cats, snakes, raccoons and other bigger birds. How long does it take for an egg to hatch? How does a nesting bird get food?

Using all of our senses will help us discover some of the challenges animals face. We went on a scavenger hunt using our senses? What did you notice with your ears and eyes? Did you feel or smell something new? What is your favourite sense?

As we continued our learning, we also thought about how we (as humans) pollute, litter or leave trash behind. How can litter affect the life of a baby bird or adult bird? At Coyote Nature School, what can we do to keep the hall and outdoor spaces clean? At home, what can you do to keep your room and outdoor spaces clean? There’s so much more to think about how we can take care of our planet. We will continue with our investigations on Earth Day!
