Monday - Team Day
Together Everyone does Achieve More. Although it was our first day of Coyote Day Camp, everyone worked together! Not only did we save the Earth multiple times in the Earth Ball activity but we made a shelter as a TEAM in Mystery Forest. Thank you to Butterfly (Barb) who came to share with us about Monarch Butterflies! We enjoyed learning from you and seeing the tiny eggs, green chrysalis and most of all the butterflies. It took 8-10 days for the butterflies to emerge or eclose from their chrysalis. What else do you remember? What did it feel like holding on to the Monarch?
Tuesday - Plant Power
In the morning, a bumblebee was going from flower to flower in the pollinator garden. Thanks to the bumblebee that plant is now pollinated. Plants can speak to us in different ways- maybe they droop because they need more water or maybe we hear the old trees make creaky noises or maybe it's a feeling. The raspberries were dark purple and were telling us they were ripe to eat. We tasted some and also left some for the other animals to eat. At the end of our day, we made a clay craft with plants imprinted in the clay. It will take a day or two to dry out but it will be a treasured memory of our time looking at plants today! Special thanks to Grey Squirrel (Harrington Branch Librarian) for teaching us a song and reading to us!
Wednesday - Bug Bonanza
We greeted the day with a bunch of bug activities to do from the Morning Menu. Bug Kazoos were made and there was buzzing everywhere and some campers were colouring and/or writing in Nature Notebooks. Some were looking for the large plastic insects hidden by Heron around the hall. As we continued our day, we heard a story read by Heron called Ten Little Caterpillars, we discovered bugs along the trail and bugs in the water. Leopard Gecko and Chipmunk worked together as a team to catch a crayfish. Crocodile, Eagle and Lion were brave enough to hold the crayfish between their fingers! Thursday - Wonders of Water
Today was a little wet! From making boats to experimenting with water, water was the focus of our day. Special Guest, Just Dave, from the Golden Triangle Marine Modellers came in with some of his model boats. Thank you for sharing with about how to build model boats and some of the different designs of boats. The best part was getting to use the remote control to power a model tugboat. Good news! For those of you in Stratford, every Monday (in good weather) the Golden Triangle Marine Modellers bring their model boats to the Avon River across from Lower Queens Park where you can watch and try out 'driving' model boats.
Friday - Greatest Of All Time
Special Thanks to Esther(Heron) who played along side campers, read stories to us and cheered us on all week! Thank you to Grey Squirrel for inviting us to the reading of a new children's book "Come Back Maya!" by local author Alycin Hayes. Our GOAT day was filled with adventure and games. Lunch in Mystery Forest followed by a wander at Cedar Hideaway. What did you do there? Some of the campers thought that the new bridge should be called "Cedar Crossing" because you cross the bridge for some of the best crayfish catching! Tiny toads and a spring peeper were caught in the forest and on the trails. We had a nice snack and a cool down at Butterfly Hill followed by a visit inside the mill. What was the oldest thing in the mill? And in an afternoon, we walked all the way around Harrington Pond. Congrats Campers! Thanks to Beaver for a cold creamsicle to eat at the end of the day!
