First Steps into The Wild

Such a wonderful first day with the Turtles! Today was all about understanding the land we live on and learning about each other. Did you have a chance to meet a new friend today? See if you can recall 3 of your friends nature names!

We chatted about how we thought the earth was created. The Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe people tell us the story of Turtle Island. Can you remember any of the other animals that were in this story? (Beaver and Otter)

Our morning was spent on Sunrise hill. We played games and learned more about each other. Each of us thought of an action that goes along with our name. What was yours? While we were there we had a chance to explore the area. Were you someone who caught bugs or made paper plane bats?

After our lunch we took some time in the library. Do you remember what the Grandson and Grandfather were up to? (Finding a kite) Much like the story, we had a little bit of stormy weather today too. Give a special thanks to Grey Squirrel, our wonderful librarian, for sharing this story with us.

We talked about how we can respect our forests, take a minute to think about how you showed care to the forest today. Was it through respecting the trees by inspecting the bugs that lived on them, or releasing an insect after investigating it? Share with someone at home how you spent your time.

Here are some framed photos of our Turtles on the first day

We had a great first day with the Turtles and we are excited to see all of your faces next week!
