What a lovely spring day we had for meeting up with the Acorns and Oaks! Today’s scavenger hunt was looking for small pictures of animals. Placing pictures on the trail is a way to help your child start moving their eyes, head and body while walking along a trail. You never know, one day while looking for things that are not real but hidden along the trail, they might actually see an animal and point them out to you.  Our time in nature today seemed to fly by!

The morning at Stoneridge Farm included a visit with the horses and chickens. Was your child scared of the large horse? What did they think of their visit with these large animals? What about the chickens? Did they find an egg? Crack an egg?

To go along with that theme for today, we read the book “On the Farm” by David Elliot.  It was a noisy book because we made the animal noises as we read the pages about the different farm animals. What animal did your child connect with in the story?

It was a sunny afternoon at Harrington Conservation Area and we started our program by making some Nature Soup. What kind of soup did your child make? What kind of nature items did they add to their soup?

We also took some time to use nets and see what lives in the pond. Of course, you had to pay the fee for entering into Cedar Hideaway. Did your child like walking in the water? The mud? Were they able to use a net and scoop into the water to find a creature? Do they remember what they found? As a group, we found some small animals like water striders, a mayfly nymph, a leech and a dead fish.  How fun was it to have a little race back to Grandfather Maple?(the tree where we started from)
