Go With the Flow

The exciting thing about being in nature is that it is always changing! Every day, every hour, every minute, there are so many new discoveries just waiting to be noticed. Some of the changes are easy to see while others require us to linger a little longer and look a little deeper. What are some of the changes we noticed today?

Water is a great example of an ever-changing feature of nature. What was our goal today in the ‘Incredible Ice Cube Melting challenge’? What techniques did you use and how did they work? We were all surprised to beat what we thought would be the toughest competitor - sidewalk salt!

The hall in Harrington is currently filled with 10 boats just waiting to be launched next week, weather permitting. What was special about the boat you made?

Last week, we peered under the surface of the pond, looking for minnows, crayfish, and tadpoles. What did we discover on top of and above the water today? It was a magic moment as we realized what a gift we were receiving from Mother Nature.

How did it feel to be a plant trying to stay hydrated in the game, “It’s Raining, It’s Pouring” ? How many times did you lose your life because you ran out of water? Thank goodness outdoor plants have root systems to absorb water from the soil. Just remember that your house plants are counting on you to supply the water!

Talk about other great moments in your day....

Clean water is one of those things that most of us expect when we turn the tap on. Many First Nation people living on northern reserves have not had clean drinking water for over 15 years and this has caused many health problems. What is the message in the picture book we read called, ‘We are the Water Protectors’?

Take a few minutes and think about how you will be a good caretaker of water and our waterways as you grow up. They are something to treasure.
