Nailed It
Our day was filled with exploring, learning about our animal and starting a building project. We loved to see how our new group of homesteaders and work and play together!
We had a 'Chore Chat' to start the morning. There should be some things you now know about hay and straw. How are they different, what is the best way to move them and what are the dangers of loose twine? Every year we bring in about 2,000 bales for the animals. What are the ways they are used?
You had a new chore buddy today. We thought these partnerships worked amazingly well for our first day. You'll have this partner for one month, so think about ways you can be an even more effective team. Talk about whether you did horse, bunny, kitten, chicken/duck chores and what was involved in their care.
Surprise! we have added new members to our farm family. This happens often at Stoneridge as we are focused on helping animals in need of finding a forever home. Sometimes they never leave! It's important to reflect on how animals get in situations where they are not cared for? Share your thoughts with someone and we'll chat more about this issue in the coming weeks.
Our wander was spent finding insects, making flower bouquet and exploring our river. We loved to see all of the team work and new friendships growing as you invited others to play with you. For next week, we encourage you to spend some of your wander time with someone you don't know quite as well yet.
While journaling, we asked you to tell us about a time that you were a good care taker of one of our farm animals. Tell someone at home about the story that you shared. Did you help ease an animal that seemed stressed, or patiently wait for one of the ducks to eat meal worms from your hands?
Over the summer we had part of a tree fall and block our path near Pine Haven. What better team then the Homesteaders to create a bridge to give us access to the north path again. Before we got started on our building, we chatted about how to use our tools safely. Can your remember 2 ways we can stay safe while using a drill?
