Welcome to a new year at Coyote Nature School! An exciting time to learn about nature and how we connect and relate to the world around us!
Getting To Know the Land
What was your favourite place to explore? After leaving the Hall in the morning it was time to head down the trails to Mystery Forest! How exciting watching the skid steer go by carrying sand and rocks for the new bridge construction. Luckily, we hopped right into Mystery Forest to find trails, new stumps (thanks to Mammoth and Coyote) and lots to investigate. What did you do while in Mystery Forest? In the afternoon we crossed the bridge over the dam and headed to Sunrise Field and Butterfly Hill. Did you roll or run down the Sunrise Hill? Tell your family about your favourite place to visit and why?
Getting To Know Nature
What did you discover as we travelled to all the different places around Harrington Hall? Did you notice caterpillars everywhere? There were plenty of snails too to fill our bug catchers. I wonder if they enjoyed the leaves and grass left for them? Along the ground and on tree branches we found many examples of mushrooms and other tree fungi. Some of the Turtles found the corn field at the edge of Butterfly Hill trampled, covered in eaten corn cobs, footprints and even some scat! What animal do you think went into the field and had a snack? What was your favourite nature connection?
Getting to Know Each Other
The Turtles group had a mix of new students and ones returning from last year. Do you remember the names of two people who you met at Coyote Nature School? Did anyone come over when you needed some help? Who helped you when you had a question? When you were collecting caterpillars did someone come to join you? Did you find a friend who liked playing games as much as you?
By the end of the day, the Turtles and Nature Mentors were doing a great job of remembering everyone’s given name and enjoying time together. Next week don’t forget to bring your nature name so we can continue to connect and learn more about our new friends.
Check out these pictures and share a story with your family about one of them.
