Passion For Poems

It may have been a rainy day, but that didn’t stop our Homesteaders from having a wonderful time celebrating the end of our winter session. Take a moment to think back on the past few months. What were some of your favourite memories? Was it working on sewing projects, caring for the animals, or all the hard work you put into shaping and carving your lucet forks?

During the morning, we set our intentions for the day. What intention did you choose to focus on? Were you able to nurture that seed throughout the day?
Meet Albert! He is a Fjord pony who is 26 years old and worked plowing and planting on a farm his whole life. Cardinal and Daisy gave him an A plus today for being a great companion for us at the farm in his retirement. The jury is out about whether he will be a permanent fixture or just passing through. We all can't wait to see his fancy mohawk grow.

It was a busy day for birds, equines (horses) and bunnies today. Which chore did you do and were there many changes with the wet and muddy weather? We have seen all of you gain so much confidence in chores during the past couple of months. Think about the winter session, what did you improve in most with your chores? Are you more confident leading horses, or know the full routine of cleaning up after one of our animals?
After lunch we got right down to finishing up our poems with the theme "Land and Sea". After copying our final print, we took time to make each of your poems unique. Art you glad we got to start painting? Was there a reason you picked certain colours? Many of us used different techniques in our paintings. Some used pastels, paint markers, water colours or paint. Which did you use?
Take a look at the finished copies of your poems. Can you find the one you wrote? Try reading it aloud to your family. It’s also great practice if you’re interested in sharing it at our upcoming showcase event at the Riverwalk Common on Saturday April 11th, please RSVP with Coyote.
A couple of us had the chance to work on necklaces or bracelets with our Lucet forks. Even though we are keeping them at the homestead during the break, we will have lots of time to use them to create new things in the spring session :)
Although the rain was coming down hard we enjoyed a campfire and delicious treats. We send out a BIG thank you to Antman for cooking up popcorn for us!
What an amazing winter session it has been. You've honed some new skills, like sewing and Lucet weaving. We also noticed more care, responsibility and kindness shown to the animals and to each other. We can’t wait to see what adventures spring will bring.
Thank you Hawk for being a constant presence with us, you add so much to the whole team. Of course, the tune of all our days is set by Otter, who is a master of fun, kindness and musical talent! Happy March break families and kids...we'll miss you:)
