Snowy Wonders

We had a wonderful day exploring the farm, discovering new animal tracks, and jumping in the deep snow. Winter gave us plenty to notice, wonder, and enjoy together.

We spent some time learning about the birds that live around our farm. On our wander, we listened closely and kept our eyes open for our feathered friends.

After our practice our bird knowledge, can you identify the birds below?

During our wander we journeyed to Pine Haven. Can you name so of the tracks that we notice along the way? In the photo on the left we can see where a deer spent the night. Do you think that a bed in the snow would be good to sleep in, or would it be a little bit chilly? Why do you think a deer might choose to rest here?

Check out that air time!

Zoom! Once we tamped down the snow, our sledding trail really took off. We used sleds to help clear a smooth path so our snow snakes could slide farther and faster down the hill.

The Snow snakes have to be pushed down the hill in a very specific way. Try demonstrating this with a stick or broom at home with your family to show them this new skill you've learned.

We had the chance to write and share poetry with our friends. Talk about what your poem is about. Did you focus on nature themes or reflecting on a time in your life? Another big thank you to Chipmunk and Painted Turtle for getting us started on this project.

At the end of the day we had the chance to make some music together in the cabin. Do you remember the name of the song? (My Paddles keen and bright) I noticed how much confidence you had on your drums and even kept a nice steady beat while singing our song together.

Here are a couple more phots of other activities that we had going on today.

What a wonderful day! Thanks for having an Otter join you today. It was wonderful to see or meet all of you again!
