The Joy of Chores

Yet another beautiful sunny day with the Homesteaders filled with hard work and happy spirits.

Morning Chores

After visiting with Timmy (the beloved puppy) in the morning we got down to business starting our chores with the animals around the farm. What were your responsibilities? Horse team, do you remember the name of the nasty egg that is laid by a fly on the horse's coat? Feeding and bedding animals is very important for them to live a happy life on the farm. Small animal team, what were some of the other tasks you did to help these creatures to be happy in their home?

Can you describe what you do exactly to be ready to hand this over and teach one of your team mates?

During our forest makeover, how were we able to help clean up the forest outside of the homestead? Can you name one of the jobs you had? While we were working we found a friend on the ground, do you remember what it was? What did we do as good caretakers, or if you weren't there, what would you do if you found this little guy?

Fall clean up includes clearing out the bird houses. What did we find when we opened the boxes? What tools did we need to use for this task? What type of birds lived in these houses? (3 species)

Wander Time

During our wander at Outpost, we had the chance to see some small critters. What were you able to catch with your nets? Many of you were excited to experiment with the art of whittling. What did you make? Using a knife can pose some risks. Can you share how you were able to do this safety? What about climbing trees, how do you judge if this is safe for you?

Benches

At Pine Haven we continued our work on our benches, Can you remember some of the tools we used? How did we fix the screws that were sticking up too high? (countersink) What a difference it makes when the top of the bench is smooth! Do you know what kind of oil we used on our benches to keep them safe from the elements? (Linseed)

"This pretty planet" is filled with wonder and life. Do you remember any of the other lyrics to our song? At the end of the day we said a sad good bye to Timmy, the playful pug pup, who has found a wonderful new home. He will be missed by the Homesteaders.
