Watch like a Hawk

Did you know that a hawk can see 5 times better and 5 times farther than humans? Although we can’t see as well as hawks, springtime brings so many surprises and changes that if you don’t try to ‘watch like a hawk’, you may miss something really special! What were some of the surprises we were lucky enough to see or hear?

Most of our talk about birds today was focused on the question: “What kind of food do birds eat and why?” We discovered it’s all about the beak. What are some of the different types of beaks we learned about? Look at the bird charts below and see if you can find a bird for each kind of beak.

We had a lot of fun imagining we were birds and trying to use these tools to pick up different food. How successful were you?

If you actually were a bird, what kind of beak would you want to have and what would you eat?

In the Bird Migration Survival game we played, you were faced with many challenges on your way back to Stoneridge Farm. Talk to your family about some of them and which predator kills approximately 60 million birds each year.

Happy birthday to Grasshopper and special to thanks to those Chickadees who were able to attend the Poetry Celebration in St. Marys on Saturday! You were extremely brave to present your poem to so many people. The CNS staff was very proud of you!
