Caring for our friends, our water and all the plants and creatures that share our planet with us. A great way to start our day at Harrington! What kind of animals live in and around the pond? Hint: Remember the book that Cardinal and River Otter read today. What animal ate the frog? What did the coyote eat? What did Anna do? Can you show your parents your best animal impression?
Why don't we see a lot of animals around the pond? The animals are camouflaged. What did you learn about camouflage from the game we played? What would you do differently next time?
How did you feel when the bowl of tadpoles poured out onto the grass? Did you sometimes think about what happened to them throughout the day? How can we care for nature?

What did you find in the river today? Water Striders were a popular item on the discovery list and Pileated Woodpecker gently made them a suitable habitat with some rocks and water. Thanks for letting them peacefully swim in their bowl before they were set free into the river. No crayfish to be seen today. Do you think the mud we were stirring up with our boots camouflaged the crayfish or made them move away to cleaner water?
A few turtles had a chance to use a vegetable peeler to do some whittling. Did you enjoy whittling a branch to make it into a smooth nature rod? Do you have some ideas on what else you need to do to make it ready to use or maybe you have a different use other than a fishing rod. Can’t wait to see what others decide when it is their turn to select a branch and go to work!
Did you notice all the birds busy around the water? One way to help birds in the spring is to put up a nesting box. Do you have any nesting boxes around your house? Catfish noticed the heron fly by as we were eating our snacks. Blue jays were everywhere, busily eating out of the neighbourhood bird feeders. Jay Jay! Did you see anything special above the eaves trough of the hall while we were sitting outside eating our lunch? Hint: Lots of you coloured this creature and glued it into your nature journals.

How is your swamp milkweed doing? Are you caring for your plant with water, sun and careful observation? Tell us the story of your milkweed’s growing progress and how you are looking after it and keeping it happy! Are you going to place the zigzag goldenrod beside the milkweed at your home? Was your family excited about the seeds you brought home from Grey Squirrel?
Who knew the Turtles would have such green thumbs! Taking care of our water, plants and creatures begins at home. It only takes a seed. Enjoy tending to your gardens. The butterflies and insects will thank you! Happy Trails!
