Winter - Are You In or Out?

When the first winter storm muscles its way into your lives, how do you respond? Are you like a bear, ready to start your winter-long hibernation or are you like a squirrel who snoozes until the worst is over and then rushes out to find food? If you find yourself sitting at your computer googling places to rent in Florida for 4 months then you may actually have a touch of migration fever! But if you’re a true nature lover like the CNS Herons, then you embrace the snow, grab a sled, and head outside before the white stuff disappears!
Which was the best hill for sliding on today - Sunrise Hill or the westside hill by the hall?

What other things did you find to do outside today?

Make a snow angel.

Enjoy the beauty of winter.

Pretend you're at the beach and bury yourself.
One of our inside projects involved learning how to tie double knots and finding out about the 4 sacred medicine plants that were very important to the Haudenosaunee people. See if you can remember some of the ways these plants were used (healing, in ceremonies, as a sign of gratitude, getting rid of worries). We talked about using our pouches to collect gifts from nature like bird feathers and interesting rocks. What will you put in your pouch?

Here are some other activities that put smiles on our faces today.

Little Beaver is looking forward to the new scarf Tamarack is knitting for him.
Grey Squirrel always has the best books and scavenger hunts for us!

They've whittled so much, they're actually growing wooden moustaches!
colouring finishing up our dolls-with-no- faces learning how to tie a slip knot
Special thanks goes out to all the Herons and volunteers who showed up ready to celebrate our first day of snow! What a way to kick off winter!
