A Circle of Friends

As part of the web of life, we know that it's all about relationships. Today, we explored the different types of connections we have with the people in our lives and compared them to the parts of a tree. Who are your 'root' people - the ones who are always there for you and love you no matter what? Which people form the trunk of your Connection Tree? Think about aunts, and uncles, cousins, and best friends. Then there are the branches and the leaves. These are the people who help make your life better or easier - for example, coaches, teachers, doctors. We all need the support of others to help our 'trees' grow strong and stay healthy.

When it comes to interacting with others, are you more like a red fox who prefers to live on its own or are you a wolf who likes to hang out with your pack? When we talked about having friends, it was so nice to hear each one of you name people from our Chickadee group who you consider to be a good 'branch or leaf' friend. Tell someone at home who your friends are here at Nature school. It's even more special if some of your friends are also your brothers or sisters.

There were so many examples today of friendships today. Take a look at the photos below and talk about how you were a good friend to someone else.
A day at Nature school just wouldn't be the same without friends to make new discoveries with. What were some of the other adventures we had today?

As we continue to work on our poems for the Poetry Project, it seems only fitting to end with a few verses from a poem by Benjamin Zephanial:
"It's so hard to share
when no one is there.
There's not much to do
when there's no one but you.
People need people.
People need people
to walk to
to talk to
to cry and rely on.
People will always need people."
Maybe this poem will even inspire you to write your own poem about the special people in your life!
