Barnyard Besties

Heaven could be described as a place filled with kindness, friendship, and a peaceful sense of purpose. This old barn felt pretty heavenly today with the buzz of human chatter along with barn swallow chirps and swoops in and out of nests tucked in the rafters. It's the perfect place to grow up. Think about how you have grown and changed over this year with the Homesteaders? I know the mentors have too!!! We'll check together next week.

We've got old relationships and new ones being forged with animals at the farm. Talk about the animal you cared for today and consider the bond you are building. What could be your next steps? For example, our ducklings are nervous and Frog needed to change his approach to gain their trust. Connecting with animals takes a lot of reading body language and respecting boundaries. What do we mean by this?

Horses pay close attention to our energy and movements, so staying calm and focused helps them feel safe and understand us better. What changes do you notice in a horse when you stay calm?

Tell someone at home about your "Bunny spa rules". How did these rules help our bunnies feel safe and protected.

During our wander, some spent time creating in the mud kitchen, collecting natural materials and turning them into imaginative recipes and muddy masterpieces. A little creativity and a lot of mud can make for a memorable day!

What a ribbiting moment when Deer caught the first frog of the season! It’s amazing how much we can notice when we slow down and explore carefully. We spotted frogs, crayfish, and many more critters as we wandered. Did you notice anything different about the forest since last week? Different animals? New plants coming up?

Moving dirt is muscle work but will lead to fresh food this summer. Start to imagine what you'd like to plant. Do some research on a plant you would want in our garden, what conditions does it like, how long will it take to grow until we can harvest it to eat? Be ready next week with at least one vegetable or herb you want in our garden.

Thanks to everyone’s teamwork, our duck house is finally ready! Scout and Skipper are growing quickly, and they’re sure to be excited to move into their new home.
