Hopping day at the farm
It was a breezy day at Stoneridge Farm today. Bugs were the focus of our learning today. Bugs have six legs and can be all kinds of different colours. Grasshoppers were hopping everywhere along the trails. Were you able to catch one? Look at one? Hear one?
Storytime today was about The very quiet cricket by Eric Carle. Cricket sounds are a kind of chirp that only boy crickets make. Note parents, you don't need to know all the names of the bugs. You can use a handheld guide to help match a picture or make up a name for that 'special find' together. As we were leaving Pine Woods, there were lots of insects making noises.
Can you make a buzzing noise like a bee? It is good to remember that not all insects are safe to collect. Most bees and wasps have their warning colours of black and yellow stripes and some insects have stingers or large biting mouth parts that may hurt you or cause an allergic reaction.
