Bundled and Brave

The chilly weather didn't stop us from enjoying our time out at Homestead. Today we got the chance to work with the farm animals, start a sewing project, and play in the deep snow. Even though we made birdfeeders today, Cardinal thought it would be a great idea to become one herself!

We got front row seats to see our farrier, Ken Gormley,  trim Libby and Jesters feet. What did you notice about the tools he uses? How difficult do you think this job is? Jester behaved well for the crowd and will get his next trim in about 8 weeks. Can you share what you learned about how and why horses need this regular visit from the Farrier?

After giving a warm welcome back to the animals we started up with our chores. Talk about your chores today and how you worked with your new partner. Learning with a new partner gives us a chance to see a different approach to chores. Think back to when you were with your partner, did they have any new ideas of how your chore could be done?

There are some changes around the homestead now that we are in the middle of winter. Tell someone at home about one part of your chore that looks different because of the weather or temperature.

How did you stay warm and keep your body moving during our wander? Some of us chose to sled or snowshoe while others enjoyed digging tunnels in the snow hills to keep our of the winter wind.

Check out the snow cones that were made by our group using the food colouring snow paint. They look great but may not be the tastiest treats to eat

While taking a little break from the cold weather, we got a chance to make natural bird feeders out of bird seeds, peanut butter and apples. The finished product really ex-seeded our expectations! Did you notice any birds enjoying your birdfeeder? leaving seeds out in the winter can be great food for other animal life in the area. What other animals do you think will come out to enjoy this snack?

Another big thank you to Junco who helped you get started on sewing your book cover. Talk about the step you took to create your page. These projects are looking wonderful and we are excited to see what the finished product will look like in the coming weeks!

We will miss Antman who is migrating south for a few weeks to get some R & R in the sun! Lucky guy:)
