Faces of the Forest

There are so many different ways that we can care for our land. We can be kind to the trees and plants around us or take only what we need during our exploration. Another way we can do this is by reflecting on what the land means to us and the beauty we see in it. This is what it means to be a place keeper of our land. How did you show that you were a place keeper of our land today?

The story "You Are The Land" tells us of a child who sees herself in nature. What would you be in our forest? A strong rushing river or a wise oak tree? Think about your nature name. How do you think you are like your animal?

We made drums for a drumming circle later in the day. How did you decorate yours? Did you add feathers, beads or a picture? Could you keep up with our rhythms? Tell your family about the game "Poison Rhythm".

How did you spend your wander time? Did you play pretend, climb a tree or explore the river for critters. Many of you liked to check out our new and improved shelter that our Homesteaders made.

Our trees are full of life, and each one has a story to tell! We spent time getting to know our tree friends by creating faces for them using natural materials we found on the forest floor. Some of you added acorn noses, stick mouths, and little tufts of grass, while others came up with their own creative ideas. See if you can find yours in the photos below!
