Soaking up the sun and water!

Soaking up the wonderful weather at Stoneridge Farm this week at the Acorns & Oaks program. Today we ventured out to "Crayfish Catch". It makes for a longer hike but it is worth it. When you are there, it has the feeling of being out in the wilderness, has easy access to the water and lots to see, hear and do! The goal was to look for crayfish and we found a few using nets.
For the first time, some of us felt what it was like to have water come over the top of our boots and soak into our socks! Often called "A Soaker". How did that feel for you or your child? To me it is always surprising to begin with but then I find I get used to it and then it’s not so bad. A lot of times when you go outdoors with your child there will be mud or wetness and/or both. If your child found it uncomfortable to be either wet or muddy today, I hoped that they learned that the discomfort is temporary. A few observations from today: 1. They got used to it and continued to explore 2. You helped your child make an adjustment and continued to explore 3. Your child was sad for a time; got focused on it and then the adjustments were made. What did you notice? The most important thing is that we were all able to choose to explore in new ways and we did it safely. Be sure to ask your child for feedback: What did your child like about today’s program? What didn’t they like? Happy Trails to exploring in new ways!
