Fun in the Water!

Catching a rubber duck!
Catching a rubber duck!

Fun in the water but no rain today! This week Acorns & Oaks ventured into the water.  Water play can sometimes be scary for both the child and the adult. You are inevitably going to get wet. Try not to stress about it. Walk close with your child and just be there for them for whatever discovery.  Whether it is the sound, splashing, watching things like rubber ducks float, watching fish or crayfish swim or frogs chilling under a log there are loads of fun experiences and learning that can happen in and around water.  Was it scary for you?  What would you do differently next time?

Here are some of the water creatures that were caught. Crayfish, Damselfly Nymph, Minnow (Blacknose Dace), Leech, Water Boatman, Green Frog

In the book, “Pond Circle” by Betsy Franco, we had a look at what creatures live around and in the pond. Do some of those animals mentioned in the book live in your backyard?

How did you like exploring today?  What was your favourite part?  Were you happy?  Were you sad? Did you find a friend to explore with or share something with?
