Getting Ready to Set Sail

In nature and in our own lives, there are things we can control and things we can’t. But even when we can’t stop something from happening, we can always decide how we will respond to it. Take the weather for example. We certainly had no control over the cold, snowy winter we experienced this past year but we were able to make good choices about how to deal with it. As Nature school mentors and kids, we dressed differently. We put on more layers and wore thicker socks and sweaters. We stayed outside for shorter periods of time and best of all, we warmed up inside with hot chocolate! We didn’t let winter stop us from having fun! What other things in your life have you learned to overcome?

Remote Control Boats

It was great to have Dave and Paul from the Golden Triangle Marine Modelers Club in Stratford visit us today! They showed us some incredible remote control boats they made. They also taught us how to control small tugboats and we had lots of fun when it was our turn to try! What kind of tugboat driver were you and is this something that interests you? If so, they meet every Monday at 6:00 at the Avon River and would love to show you the rest of their boats.

Making Boats Our Own Boats

We used recycled and natural materials to make our own boats today.  Use the photos below to talk to your family about how you designed your boat and how you solved any problems you ran into. We will be testing their seaworthiness next Friday down at the pond.

Grey Squirrel's Magical Experiment

See if you can explain how we were able to make these nature prints. What was the magic?

Just Another Amazing Day at Nature School!

A day at Nature school is always jam-packed with all kinds of discoveries and interactions and every picture tells a story. Which stories will you share with your family tonight?

As Heron fledglings, you are getting ready to leave the nest and sail into summer next week. Remember, if you find yourself being given ‘lemons’ when you don’t want them, put them to good use - set up a lemonade stand and use your money to buy your very own remote control boat! Happy sailing!
