Helping Hands on the Homestead

A warm welcome to the new animals at Coyote Nature School. Do you remember how old our baby guinea pigs are? (5 Days) They were the talk of the town and there is soon to be more next week!

Chores

Do you think of fun, hard work or both when you think of chores? What did you do for your part of chores today? How did you do it? Is there anything you find challenging? There are always favourite tasks, what are yours? Start considering what job you'd like to do next week for our final day with either the big or little animals. 

We cared for the future wildlife of the farm by cleaning the bird boxes so new families can come next year. What did you find in the boxes. There are many boxes along the trails, do you remember where the ones we cleaned were located? (Trail entrance, Pine haven and Big Rock trail)

What signs did you help put up during the nature makeover? There were many jobs to do to keep our the Homestead trail cleared and organized, how did you help out? We created a new place to keep the bones and nests that we love to look at. What is the name of this new location?

Getting To Know The Trail

You discovered or tramped down familiar trails that were made last year. These are not the main ones we use on the farm. Why do we make smaller trails and stick to them when wandering? Can you name three ways we can highlight the direction of trails so people stay on them? Which is your favourite of the three? (Cattail, Chickadee, Big Rock). I wonder if there are any other places on the farm where you would like to make a narrow trail.

Projects

Our projects today were building the rabbit castle or outdoor duck run. What were some of your tasks when you were renovating the rabbit house? Talk about the tools you used for this project.

A duck run??? Why do we need to have a duck run at the farm. We also used two new tools while we were making this, what were they? (Allen key and wrench) This project didn't quite work out as planned. This sometimes happens so we'll need to make some changes to have it finished for Bob and Bubbles! In your pictures of what should be included in the ducks new home, do you remember what you added to yours?

A wonderful day with the homesteaders this week and we are very excited to continue our projects for next week. Watch out for Petunia's birth announcement coming soon! How many days did you guess before they arrive? I know you have some wishes for puppies coming again soon:)
