Shaping Something Special

What is a Homesteader? This is a question we took some time to consider with our new chore partners. Homesteading always comes with animal caretaking responsibilities. What are some of the three (or more) questions you would be asking yourself in order to give the BEST care to your animals on the homestead. We'll be working through your list in order to get prepared for when the cold weather finally arrives.

How did it go with your new partner in terms of getting your jobs done. It will feel different to start and you may need to be flexible so that you become a good team. We thought that you were doing really well together this morning.

During our wander, did you explore the river, help with starting a fire or play pretend. Maybe you got a good work out in like Salmon, Pike and Acorn who found logs to squat with. Many of you made the most of our Outpost shelter that all of you worked so hard on.

In the afternoon, we got our hands dirty creating our very own pinch pots! How did you shape yours? Did you need to add a little water to help smooth out the clay, or was it just right to work with? Each pot is unique, and we can’t wait for them to finish drying so you can take your little bowls home and put them to use next week!

We practiced our fire building skills by using flint and steel, matches and different types of strikers. Did you have one that you preferred? We gathered a special type of fuel to help our fires catch. Can you remember what it was called? (Tinder) Tinder is made up of small, dry materials that help a fire get started. What materials did you find in the forest that could be used as tinder?

We missed our friend Antman who is at home recovering from a 'bad bug'. We hope to see him and his bugs back with us soon! Watch your mailbox for some of our written thoughts Antman!
