Learning With The Land

We had an exciting new arrival at the farm, the outhouse! Take some time this week to keep brainstorming a name for this new addition to the farm.

The animals are very happy in your care. Are you surprised how much you enjoy doing farm chores? We are! Try to be specific when you talk about what it is about chores that makes you feel that way? What new role did you take on today?

There are some difficult or tricky jobs during chores. Talk through these parts inside your own head or share with family so that you work out a better way to get the job done. Think about things you can do when you're 'all done' your work to help others on the team.

Remember to keep those eggs in a safe place! What did the chickens do when they rediscovered their eggs? The ducks are growing much more confident with people! How were you able to show them you are friendly and trust you to eat out of your hands?

Safety is always top of mind on the farm. Why? What ways have you been told or can you think of that will prevent accidents from happening during chore time while handling animals, working with tools, caring for yourself, or in places that pose a danger to others. We may ask you to share about this at check in next week.

For some of us we got our first look at The Backwoods. Did you notice any differences between this part of the trail and other areas of the farm? How could we tend to this trail to show a clearer path?

Our whittlers are back at it again. What project were you working on? Brainstorm during the week ideas that could come to life through whittling!

What an amazing feather damselfly found. What animal do you think this came from?

ree

Introducing our new and improved "Bunny Barn", a wonderful name for the structure we have been working on for three weeks now. What ways have you helped out with this project during its re-construction?

ree

We are making the duck pen safer place. If this was your job or you have thought about it, how are we trying to keep Duffy & Donald safe. They certainly felt frisky today, can you describe their funny antics to someone at home? The materials used in building projects can effect the life around the farm. How did we make sure we kept our area clean during and after our project? (Putting down a sheet when staining, Double checking our workspace is clear during clean up)

How are you doing with Safety Inspections that keep ME safe?

ree

We now have two signs completed. What are they and can you imagine any other signs we might want to create? Write down what you'd put on them. (Ideas: outhouse sign, place names, tree names, hang out spots with no names yet....).
