Plowing Through The Day

Hiking can feel tiring but it's a great way to get a sense of the land and see some pretty interesting things happening along the way. The crops are always changing and today it was a worm fest for the mommy Robins. Why?

We were lucky to meet up with a local farmer, who farms the land organically. What does that mean and what has he grown here? How is his tractor designed so that it doesn't compact or press heavily on the soil and get stuck in the mud? Plant roots appreciate having looser soil to push their roots down into.

The Baby Tree Nursery is now a Teen Tree Nursery according to Acorn... or the treen nursery according to Salmon. The trees are WAY over our heads. What species of trees did you see? One is named after one of our favourite Nature Mentors. There are two types of forests planted in this area. What do you call them and how are they different? HINT: one is cone-bearing and the other has leaves that fall and regrow.

We learned about this plant on our journey in the tree nursery, do you remember its name? (Jack-in-the-pulpit). How many more of these plants were you able to find on our way back?

We took some time to enjoy the backwoods for our wander. Some of you worked with your lucet forks, played make belief or built bridges across the river. Blue Racer showed off her building skills by making a raft for the river! Think about the open house happening on Saturday, if you could tell a friend one thing about our wander time, what would you tell them?

Acorn and Salmon helped with staining our new garden bed to prepare for next week when we will start planting. Thinks about our brainstorm on what we will be adding to these beds. Which plants are you excited for? What were your suggestions?

The Duck House has been remodelled and will house Donald, Scout and Skipper together for their first night. I wonder if Donald will learn to chill a bit and stop bossing the younger ones around?

Did you help to take care of a horse or wash the stalls and add more art onto the walls? Thanks so much for helping to clean the barn in preparation of our open house!

What a wonderful day at the farm. Check out these pictures below and tell your family what you were building, drawing or discovering in that moment.
