The power of water is a beautiful thing! It can appear and be present in so many ways! Just like magic! Can you sing the Water Cycle song to your family? After you sang the song today could you list and act out every part?
Water is important to all living things but we need to treat it with care. Were you surprised about the percentage of water in the world that is fresh water (the water that is available for drinking)? Do you remember what that number was? On Sunset Hill we learned that water is precious not just to humans but to trees, plants, fish, skunks, Canada Geese and other creatures we discovered while playing our scavenger water game. Did you find all the water gems? What would happen to us all if we couldn’t find the water we needed?

Once we got to the river by Cedar Hideaway we were ready to learn about the importance of water in different ways and how much fun it can be! The Turtles built their boats out of recycled items and natural materials. Ready! Set! Sail! The race was on, six races in total! How did it feel to launch your boat into the water and watch it go downstream to the finish line? Did your boat have a special purpose? How will you redesign your boat for next time? Was the water current helping you or stopping your boat from moving faster? Did the rocks or algae slow your boat down? Would you change some of the materials you used? Some of the Turtles decided to join together as a group to work on boats when we meet again! Teamwork! The more brain power the better!
We drew some of our boat designs in our Nature Notebooks. What did you name your boat?
Bugs, Bugs, Bugs! Even bugs need water to survive! Do you remember some of the water bugs Grey Squirrel chatted about? Did you see them on the colouring page she gave us? Grey Squirrel read about an animal who really loves to eat bugs. This animal would be very upset if there were no bugs on the water. What was your favourite frog What other animals would also be upset?
Can’t wait to continue our bug investigation next week. Did you have a chance to test out your bug catcher in Mystery Forest? What kind of bugs did you find? Thanks Red Fox for helping Monarch to identify a potato bug she caught! Can you describe what a potato bug looks like? Hawk was right behind them looking for some more creepy crawlies!
How can you show your gratitude? Talk to your family about ways you can look after water and how to keep it clean. Think about some ways of using less water. The Turtles love water. Thanks Water!
