Snow Much Fun!

This week, we had a wonderful time in snowy weather! We filled our day with building projects, caring for animals and exploring the snowy weather at Pine Haven.

Is your favourite animal the playground bully or the shy wallflower? There is some deeper understanding we are searching for to connect with each animal in our care. Take some time this week to write a "Who Am I" paragraph story describing one of the animals in their own words. Using their voice will help you get inside their thoughts and feelings. Come ready to share your tail next week.

The mentors stepped back this week and you took the lead on chores. When you weren’t sure how to complete a task, how did you find your answer? Did you check in with your partner or ask one of our animal experts for guidance? Each time you problem-solve on your own, you’re building confidence and skills.

During our wander, we headed out to Pine Haven for some sledding fun. Were you aiming to set a record distance on a sled, or did you find shelter in a fort to play in the snow? Including others takes courage and care, but it helps our community grow stronger. How did you make space for someone new in your play today?

Big thanks to Antman for helping us get a fire going during our wander. It can be difficult to get snowy or frozen wood to burn in the winter. What steps did you take to make sure this fire would light? Next time we build a fire, is there anything that you would do differently?

Our fire was also a great tool to help us warm up and dry off. Check out the steam that is rising off of Damselfly's snow pants!

We began to finish up our swing that we started to build last week. Were you in charge of sanding, burning the rope or measuring how high our swing should be? Reflect on all of the work we have done on the swings in the last two weeks. What has been your favourite part of this building project? This swing will make a wonderful addition to the hayloft for every group that comes to visit the farm!

We are nearly finished making our Lucet forks. Tell someone at home about the steps you took to add the finishing touches. Sometimes the .can be tricky to carve and sand. Was their a part in this process that you felt required more patience?

It's our final day together for fall session next week. Although it doesn't feel like autumn it still is! Get ready to welcome winter on December 21st. Watch for an email about materials you need to bring if you want to complete a 'top secret' project. See you for the grand finale!
