It was a wonderful fall morning to do some exploring at Stoneridge Farm. When you start looking, it is surprising what you can find. The animals are on the move, but what were they doing when we found them and where did we let them go?
We saw a sneaky chipmunk at the feeder on the catalpa tree. What did we see him do and where did he go? Do you remember hearing the chirp (kissing sound) of a chipmunk when we were sitting by Big Maple? Chipmunks make a few different types of noises. What does a chipmunk have on the side of its body?
While walking along the Tippy Trail, we noticed that the moon was still up high in the sky.
At Pine Haven, we read a book called "Squirrels" by Brian Wildsmith. There were some colourful pictures of squirrels and some interesting facts too! Was there something your child remembers. If you wanted to pretend to be a squirrel tonight, use a small blanket as a tail and wrap it around yourself when you are snuggling up for bed.
On the trail, we were searching for food for squirrels. We looked for nuts or large seeds but we could only find some very small seeds. We also looked for something to make their dray (winter home) cozy like leaves and pine needles.. At Willow Hut, we made a nice pile of bedding and seeds for the squirrels to find.
Make a little squirrel nest out of leaves. I hope you see some squirrels this week and have a chance to watch and see what they are doing in your backyard or park.
Brown squirrel, Brown squirrel shake your bushy tail! Until next week! Thanks to Chickadee and Ladybug for their help today!
