The Kindness Connection

We know that having connections with nature helps us become happier and healthier individuals. So why is it also important that we build positive relationships with others?
Why do people need people? Today, we compared the different kinds of connections we have with others to the parts of a tree. Who are your “root” people? These are the people who take care of you, make sure you are safe, and love you no matter what. Then there’s the “trunk’ people - think of people like your best friends, extended family like aunts, uncles, and cousins. Think of the people who make your life better or easier like coaches, teachers, doctors, bus drivers, and friends. They are the branches and leaves at the top of the tree. Talk about your Connection Tree with your “root” people at home and see if you can find other examples you can add to your tree?

We talked a lot about friendship and it was great to hear that every Heron considers at least one other person in our group to be their friend. What was the main thing that the characters in the story, ‘Lovebirds’ had in common that made them best friends? How can you be a good friend to others?

Every week at Nature school is a ‘treat each other with kindness’ day although the next national World Kindness Day isn’t until Nov. 13. Grey Squirrel read us a book today that explained that if you show kindness to others, kindness will also be shown to you. We think Grey Squirrel is a great example of someone who is very kind and we appreciate all of the things she does for us.
Here are some random acts of kindness we witnessed today.
There’s always lots to do and discover each week at Nature school. Which were some of your favourite activities or experiences today?

It's been said that it’s not about WHAT you have in life but it's WHO you have that matters the most. Take the time to get to know new people and you may find that strangers are often just friends waiting to happen.
