Time to Celebrate!

Watch out! Snow storm coming your way!
Watch out! Snow storm coming your way!

The last day of the Fall session at Coyote Nature School, how time flies!   How were you feeling when you arrived at Harrington this week? Are you excited or sad about leaving friends for a few weeks?   Walking into a white winter wonderland was certainly a nice start!

What did you remember about the photos we looked at during our campfire circle?  The activity?  The fun you had with someone?  Something new you learned?  Take some time to look at the photos this week and try to find yourself.  How were you feeling in that photo?  Think about all the places we visited.  Can you write a poem about your favourite location or activity?

In the story Snowmen at Christmas how did the snowmen celebrate winter and the holidays?  Did their traditions remind you of what you celebrate and love to do with your family? Pin Cherry loved how the characters were gathering together and sharing in all the fun!  Try to find some time during our break to work in your nature notebooks.  Share some writing and/or drawings about fun things you did over the holidays.  Something you did by yourself, with friends or with your family.  Looking forward to sharing when we come back with our nature notebooks in January!

Grey Squirrel kept the winter festivities going with Twelve Festive Frogs.  Do you remember some of the things the frogs gave as gifts?  Remember the “Three Dancing Deer”? We also make icy decorations for outdoor trees.  Will it melt by January 13 or will it stay frozen? Keep watch and let us know when we meet again in the new year.

Meet you there!  A visit to Mystery Forest and Cedar Hideaway reminded us how things in nature have changed.  What changes did you notice during our wander time?  What signs told us deer had been wandering too?  We snuck in for a visit to the shelter the Heron’s made.  Did you find it warm and cozy? What did the Herons do to keep the wind and the snow out of the shelter?  We celebrated winter in fine fashion by going sledding at Sunrise Hill!

Our end of day gathering was made extra warm and sweet with treats from the Hawk, Blue Jay, Leopard Frog and Cardinal and warm hot chocolate provided by Dragonfly!  Did you try something new?  Thank you to Antman for the quick visit and the popcorn kernels. Hope you have a chance to use your cork coaster and your snowman clothes pin decorations.  Perhaps you will give it to someone special as a gift. Lots more winter fun to celebrate! The celebrations continue…The First day of Winter is December 21 and the New Year is around the corner.

Happy Trails till then Cardinal and Denise!
