Web of Wonders

On the lookout for spiders and webs
On the lookout for spiders and webs

The web of life describes how everything and everyone in nature is connected and how we need each other in order to survive and thrive. At nature school, we are beginning to weave our own 'web of friendship' with our older children helping our younger children. Our junior nature mentors lead by example and lend a helping hand whenever needed. In fact, Chickadees of all ages are starting to pitch in and help one another which makes our 'web' even stronger. What kinds of things have you done to help others? How did it make you feel? How do you think it made the other person feel?

Look at some of the ways our Chickadees helped each other.

Coyote and her daughter love helping animals in need. It was fun getting to know the puppies who have now found good homes. Today we had the chance to meet some new furry/feathery friends at the farm. How were you a friend to the animals we met?

Our time at Crayfish Catch was full of opportunities to connect with others and find ways to be helpful. How did the nature mentors or another Chickadee help you while we were there? Maybe they showed you a good spot for catching crayfish or the best place to find clay for modelling. What is one way you can help someone else next week when we are doing stream activities?

Arrival activities were also a great place to see friendships in action. Did you help someone find Little Beaver or did you give them clues to find their nature name rocks? If you were one of the woodshop workers, what did you do to make the store even better?

Our volunteers also play a big part in our web of friendship. Oriole used her excellent skills of observation to find funnel spiders, caterpillars, Jewelweed seed pods, and even Turtle’s lost clay pot! I hope you had a chance to show her your gratitude.

Antman shared his knowledge about spiders today to help us learn how amazing these creatures are. Which spiders are your favourite? If someone wanted to find some spiders or their webs, where would you tell them to look?

What other discoveries did we add to our web of wonders today?

What are you looking forward to the most when you come back to nature school next week? Who would you like to connect with? Let’s see if we can make our web of friendship even bigger by getting to know someone new!
