Your Friends are My Friends!

Leopard Frog, Deer and Pin Cherry hop on a nursery log!

What did you learn about friends today?  Whether they are living things out in nature or the human variety, friends are all around us, the best news of all!

A little snip here, a little snip there!

Out came the scissors and some of the Turtles started the fall clean up in the Harrington garden. Did you think about any other plants you would like to grow in the garden? Talk to your family and do a little research of your own. Does our garden get much sun? Water? What plants would attract lots of pollinators and other important insects? Looking forward to any ideas on new plants to grow next week.

Listening to the world around us!

What did you hear around you when you sat quietly with your eyes closed? Did you hear the bluejays, chickadees and the car driving by? Our sense of hearing was again put to the test when we turned to a friend to learn more about them. What did you learn about your partner when we chatted in Mystery Forest? Did you learn something new?  See if you can remember some things about your chat buddy to share with your family or a friend? Do you remember a joke that someone shared? Like Snapping Turtle’s joke: Why did the cow cross the road? Answer: To go to the mooo vies. Practising how to be a caring listener can be challenging.  Brainstorm some new questions you can ask your friends!

Pica Who?

One, two, three…who am I? Did you remember your friend’s nature name when the sheet dropped down?  Bald Eagle was fast as lightning!  Keep practising!  Can you think of a fun game or activity to help us remember lickity split?  Did you give your tree friend a name too?  Black Bear’s tree friend’s name is Steve and Deer’s tree friend’s name is Unicorn!  What will you name your tree friend? Is there a special reason?  What other things would you like to learn about your tree friend? What gift did you leave for your tree friend?

Would you Rather?

What would you rather be?  A fish that can swim or a bird that can fly?  What did you and your partner decide when asked whether to choose between talking to animals or plants? How many different ways can you use a stick?  Blue Spruce and Pin Cherry decided to make a tent! Bald Eagle and Hawk used one to make a swing. BlueJay used his stick to dig a deep hole. Blue Jay, do you remember how far you were able to push it into the ground?   Hint: it was over 100 centimetres!

The More We Learn In Nature!

Sometimes we learn about sad things in nature. What changes did you notice when you investigated the dead raccoon we first saw last week?  Sometimes we learn happy and surprising things.  What a coincidence that Leopard Frog, Deer and Pin Cherry found a nurse log with fungi on it just before hearing all about them. Thanks to Grey Squirrel who read the book “Thank you, Old Oak” by Britt Crow-Miller. Grey Squirrel also set up a great but tricky scavenger in the library.  We also made a garland with leaves we coloured from the pages she gave us.  We learn every day that we are all friends, even if we don’t always like the same things.  The more we learn in nature the happier we’ll be!  What will you learn about your friends next week?
